- Read, sign off and follow Risk Assessment RA-HYG-024 before cleaning this machine.
- Isolate the machine at the marked isolators before removing any guard or belt.
- Follow the lock-off procedure. Your PADLOCK stays on and you keep the key at ALL times.
- Never mix chemicals. One product at a time, rinsing between them. A chlorinated product mixed with an acid releases chlorine gas.
- Report damage to the Team Leader or Hygiene Controller and raise it on MaintMaster.

METHOD A — DEEP CLEAN
- Stop the product feed and allow any remaining product to pass completely through the machine.
- Wear the required PPE and prepare a clean blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand. Removed parts must not be placed directly onto the floor.
- Fully drain the main wash tank, pump tank, sand trap and connected pipework. Do not remove a guard, open an access panel or reach into the machine until isolation and lock-off are complete.
- Stop the machine, follow the approved isolation and lock-off procedure, and fit your personal padlock securely. Test the controls to confirm that the equipment cannot start. Confirm that the water supply is isolated and that no residual pressure remains in the spray bars or pipework before any pipe, end cap or nozzle is removed.
- Cover and protect electrical panels, motors, sockets and electrical connections with approved covers before any wet cleaning begins.
- Using the fitted handles, pull out and remove the tray from beneath the vibration table, then place it on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Remove the curved perforated bottom trays from inside the wash tank and place them on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Remove the clips from the filters and carefully slide the filters out and place them on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Release the blue-handled retaining clips, carefully remove the perforated griddle section and place it on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Remove all pipework and end caps identified in the Pipework Removal Guide. Place all removed parts on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Remove the spray nozzles and place them on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand.
- Place clips, end caps and other small parts into a clean container to prevent them from becoming lost or damaged.
- Remove all gross debris from the tanks, removed parts and surrounding equipment surfaces. Place the debris into a suitable waste container.
- Pre-rinse all surfaces and removed parts using fresh, clean water to remove any remaining debris. Pay particular attention to key inspection points.
- Do not direct water at electrical panels, motors or electrical connections.
- Apply KM-D12 chlorinated foam or KM-D10 alkaline foam, or another approved detergent foam solution.
- Allow a minimum contact time of 20 minutes. Do not allow the detergent to dry on the surfaces.
- Scrub any stubborn soil using a designated blue brush and/or blue pad scourer.
- Clean all removed pipework internally and externally using a correctly sized tube brush or the approved pipe-cleaning/power-washing bowl.
- Brush the pipework from both ends and pay particular attention to bends, connections and end caps.
- Clean the spray nozzle frameworks and nozzles. Confirm that all nozzle openings are clear and free from debris.
- Thoroughly rinse all surfaces, removed parts and pipework using fresh, clean water to remove all detergent and chemical residue. Continue rinsing until the run-off is clear and free from foam.
- Visually inspect all surfaces and removed parts. Confirm that they are clean, free from staining and free from debris. Focus mainly on the key inspection points.
- Reclean and rinse any area that does not meet the required cleaning standard. If the area still fails to meet the standard after recleaning, stop and report it to the Team Leader. The equipment must not go back to Production until it passes.
- Spray disinfect all cleaned surfaces and removed parts using the approved Active solution, including the internal surfaces of the pipework.
- Hand-clean the approved exposed control-panel surfaces using a clean cloth and Active solution, where authorised under the site procedure. Do not spray water or chemicals directly into the control panel.
- Allow a minimum disinfectant contact time of 15 minutes.
- Visually inspect the internal and external surfaces of all pipework and spray nozzles. Confirm that they are clean, free from staining, debris and chemical residue.
- Hygiene refits all cleaned pipework, end caps and spray nozzles.
- Do not refit any pipework or spray nozzle that has not been cleaned to the required standard. Reclean, rinse and reinspect as necessary.
- Confirm that all pipe connections, clips, end caps and spray nozzles are correctly fitted and securely in place.
- Hygiene does not refit the remaining removed parts. Keep the cleaned tray, curved perforated bottom trays, filters and perforated griddle section on the blue hygiene pallet or approved hygiene stand for Production to reassemble.
- Keep all cleaned parts protected from floor contact, splash and recontamination while awaiting Production reassembly.
- Confirm that no tools, brushes, cloths, loose parts or chemical containers remain inside or around the machine.
- Complete the final inspection and any required verification checks. Report any damaged filters, blocked nozzles, damaged pipework, missing parts or areas that could not be cleaned correctly.
- Remove the personal padlock following the approved lock-off procedure and hand the equipment over to Production.
- Remove your PPE in the correct order. Rinse gauntlets, visor and boots, return reusable PPE to its designated place and dispose of single-use items in the correct waste stream. Wash your hands before leaving the area.
METHOD B — RINSE & SANITISE
- Complete Steps 1–15 of Deep Clean, including isolation and lock-off, covering the electrics, dismantling, removal of gross debris and pre-rinsing.
- Thoroughly rinse all machine surfaces and removed parts using fresh, clean water. Pay particular attention to the key inspection points.
- Flush all removed pipework internally from both ends. Pay particular attention to bends, connections and end caps.
- Rinse the spray nozzle frameworks and nozzles. Confirm that all nozzle openings are clear and free from debris.
- Where any heavy build-up of residue, slime, mould or other stubborn contamination is found, scrub the affected area using a designated blue brush or blue scouring pad, then rinse thoroughly.
- Visually inspect all machine surfaces and removed parts. Confirm that they are clean, free from staining and free from debris, mainly focusing on the key inspection points.
- Re-rinse or scrub any area or part that does not meet the required cleaning standard.
- Spray disinfect all cleaned surfaces and removed parts using the approved Active solution, including the internal surfaces of the pipework.
- Hand-clean the approved exposed control-panel surfaces using a clean cloth and Active solution, where authorised under the site procedure. Do not spray water or chemicals directly into the control panel.
- Allow a minimum sanitiser contact time of 15 minutes.
- Complete Steps 28–37 of Deep Clean, including inspection, refitting the pipework and spray nozzles, protecting the remaining parts, completing the final inspection, handing the equipment back to Production and removing your PPE.
METHOD C — ACID CLEAN (KM-A15)
- KM-A15 must only be used when requested by the Team Manager to remove heavy staining from tanks, frameworks, pipework or other equipment surfaces. WARNING: KM-A15 is an acid cleaner. Do not use KM-D12, hypochlorite or any other chlorine-based chemical during this process. Ensure all equipment and cleaning tools are thoroughly rinsed and free from chlorine residue before applying KM-A15.
- Complete Steps 1–15 of Deep Clean, including isolation and lock-off, covering the electrics, dismantling, removal of gross debris and pre-rinsing.
- Prepare KM-A15 in a designated and clearly labelled chemical bucket at the approved 50–100% concentration, as instructed by the Team Manager and current site chemical procedure.
- Put on the respirator before applying acid. Apply KM-A15 manually to the heavily stained areas using a designated blue scouring pad or blue brush.
- Only apply KM-A15 to areas requiring stain removal. Pay particular attention to heavily stained: Tank surfaces, Frameworks, Welds and corners, Pipework, Pipe bends, connections and end caps
- Scrub the stained areas thoroughly using the designated blue scouring pad or blue brush until the staining has been removed.
- Clean stained pipework internally using a correctly sized tube brush where required.
- Thoroughly rinse all treated surfaces, removed parts and pipework using fresh, clean water to remove all KM-A15 and loosened staining.
- Confirm that all KM-A15 residue has been completely removed before another chemical is applied. Keep the respirator on until the acid has been fully rinsed away and the smell has cleared.
- Apply KM-D10 detergent foam solution to the entire equipment.
- Continue with Steps 17–37 of Deep Clean.

Other Information
Inform the Team Manager/Supervisor when cleaning is complete.
Do not begin refitting pipework or spray nozzles until the equipment has been inspected and accepted as clean.
